KWrap room guides / Wrapping a kitchen island

Wrapping a kitchen island

The island is usually the first thing you see in a kitchen, and the easiest place to change the whole look. Here is how KWrap approaches it. More on kitchen cabinet wrapping.

Kitchen before and after: light grey gloss cupboards wrapped in matt black
Light grey gloss to matt black, on the same cabinets. A real KWrap job.

Every visible side

An island is seen from all sides, so all of them are wrapped: the door fronts, both end panels and the back panel facing the room. Plinths are wrapped to match, so the island reads as one piece of furniture.

A contrast colour

Islands are a natural place for a second finish. A dark island with lighter wall units, or a wood-grain island in a painted kitchen, makes a kitchen look designed rather than fitted. The KWrap colour library lists the films.

Breakfast bars and seating

Seating overhangs take knocks from stools and feet, so the panels underneath are prepared carefully and the edges well sealed. If the worktop is being wrapped too, see worktop wrapping.

Sockets and appliances

Sockets, hobs and integrated appliances in an island are worked around. Anything that gets hot is never wrapped.

Questions

Can just the island be wrapped?

Yes. Wrapping only the island is a quick way to add a contrast colour without changing the rest of the kitchen.
